Privacy Policy

Red Grid MGRS is built with a privacy-first, offline-first architecture. There are no user accounts, no analytics SDKs, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. This policy describes exactly what data the app accesses, what stays on your device, and the two narrow cases where the app talks to the network at all.

Location Data

Red Grid MGRS requests access to your device's GPS location while the app is open (foreground, while-in-use only). Location is used solely to calculate and display your position: MGRS coordinates, bearing and distance to waypoints, and related on-screen tools.

Your live position is held in memory only and is discarded when you close the app
Location is never transmitted over any network; it never leaves your device
Location is never shared with any third party
The only coordinates written to disk are waypoints and saved areas that you explicitly choose to save, stored locally on your device

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is saved locally on your device, and nowhere else:

App settings and preferences: declination offset, pace count calibration, theme, coordinate format, and feature toggles
Waypoints and waypoint lists: positions you choose to save
Saved AO packages and downloaded map tiles: offline map areas you choose to download
On-device usage counters: simple local counters (sessions, screen visits) stored under a single local storage key (rg_analytics). These exist only on your device, are never transmitted anywhere, and are deleted when you uninstall the app
Pro entitlement flag: whether Pro is unlocked on this device

None of this data is ever transmitted. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, receive, or have access to:

Your GPS location or any location history. Location never leaves your device.
Personal information (name, email, phone number)
Device identifiers for tracking or advertising
Usage analytics, behavioral data, or telemetry of any kind
Crash reports
Contacts, photos, or other device content

The app has no user accounts, no login, and no cloud sync. There is no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, and no advertising SDK in the app.

Network Activity

Red Grid MGRS makes no network calls, with exactly two exceptions, both initiated by you:

Map tile downloads. When you choose to view or download map tiles (for example, saving an AO for offline use), the app fetches those tiles from public tile providers: OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap, and basemaps.cartocdn.com (the dark map style). Like any web server, those providers may log standard HTTP request data such as your IP address and the requested tile coordinates. Once downloaded, tiles are stored on your device and require no further network connection.
Purchases. Purchase and subscription transactions use the platform-native Apple App Store / Google Play billing APIs (see below).

There is no analytics traffic, no crash reporting, no advertising network, no account system or cloud sync, and no update check or telemetry. Outside the two cases above, the app works fully in airplane mode. You can verify this by reviewing the published source code or monitoring network traffic while using the app.

Purchases and Subscriptions

Red Grid MGRS is free to download. Optional Red Grid Pro is available in three tiers:

Pro Monthly: auto-renewing monthly subscription
Pro Annual: auto-renewing yearly subscription
Pro Lifetime: a single payment that unlocks Pro permanently

All payment is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). Red Grid MGRS never sees your payment details and receives no personal data from these transactions. Subscriptions are managed and cancelled through your App Store or Google Play account settings, and the app's Pro purchase screen includes a RESTORE button to recover a previous purchase after a reinstall or on a new device.

Permissions

The app requests the following permissions. Only Location is needed for the core grid display; everything else is optional and only requested when you use the related feature.

No other permissions are requested.

Third Parties

Red Grid MGRS contains no third-party SDKs that collect data. The only third-party services involved are the public map tile providers listed above (when you choose to load or download tiles) and the native Apple StoreKit / Google Play Billing APIs (when you make a purchase). No third-party purchase, analytics, advertising, or social media SDK is included.

Children's Privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children; there is nothing collected to begin with.

Changes

Any changes to this policy will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
